What is the Legal Definition of Kidnapping in NJ?

According to New Jersey criminal law, Kidnapping is removing someone against his or her will from somewhere, usually with the intent to hold that person for ransom or as a hostage. Kidnapping can also be not letting someone leave from a place they were already in.

Kidnapping is also when a person is removed from a place to make it easier to commit a different crime or to torture or physically injure that person. It is also considered Kidnapping when a person is held to interfere with a government event or if the purpose is to deprive the parents or guardians of being with their child.
